Live, up to the minute news.....

Well, I suppose it's not live.

And depending on when you're reading this, it may not be all that up to the minute either.

Hell, there are probably even those that would dispute it's newsness...

In any case, here's what I did today.....

Chapter 1: Braving the Elements

This was the view out my sliding door this morning. As you can see, the forcasters were not wrong for once. I know you can't really tell from this photo, but that's about 6.5 inches of snow.

The last thing I wanted to do today was go out in this shit.

The one thing I had to do? Yeah, go out in this shit.

Because I knew the roads would be like this:

I decided to walk.

Not because I'm not confident in my driving ability, nor my experience in driving on ice, no, it's because I've seen how the assholes around here drive. You may remember me ranting about this some time ago. So, the hike was on. I made it to my 1st stop with no problems to report.

Second on my agenda was a stop at the casino to cash my weekly eagle drop....

Chapter 2 A Brief Respite

I made it to the Gold Dust, and made my way to the cage. No, really, that's what they call it. I cashed my check and headed over to the nickel keno. Today, for some reason, I decided to have a couple shots as well as my regular beer. I have to say that a Copper Camel and a Newcastle is a pretty fine combo. There's something in the Irishcreamy butterscothiness of the shot that totally works with the hoppy goodness of the ale....sigh.....

Chapter 3 Once more, unto the Breach

After one a couple several drinks, it was time to complete my tasks. The snow, which had let up when I started out for the day, was back. Not blizzardy or anything, but it was snowing again. I made it to the store, and headed my feet home. The longer I walked, the heavier the now became.....

I got home, and I'm happy to report, suffered no ill effects from the day.

Oh, and so you know, this is what the yard looked like at 9:00 pm tonight (sat)

Oh, and yes. Those dimples in the snow are my tracks from earlier in the day.

I love winter.....

The storm is rolling in.....

And it's getting nasty fast:

A few minutes ago I was out there fixing the gate. In cold weather the fulcrum screw tends to contract just enough so that it won't stay screwed in. I usually have to tighten it twice a day. Sometime during the night, however, the gate seems to have rattled enough to wriggle it all the way out. It was either freeze my ass off in driving rain, or go find the gate in the morning and put it back on.

Needless to say, I chose A.

So, we'll have one of these:

Pops is also going to make some clam chowder.....

I can't wait.

In other news, despite the weather, UPS dropped off a small package for me today. I was surfing around the other day and found a store that took Paypal, and used my ebay commission to purchase some RAM.

A full gig, that's 512 x 2, for $40.00.

That's right, forty bucks.

I haven't installed it yet, but that's next on tap.

Suck my caucus.....

I was over at Sue's the other day, and she was lamenting the 'shock and awe' tactics that politicians use during an election year.

Especially a Presidential election where the current President can't run.

I thought that I had it bad in Nevada, what with it being the capital and all. I mean, the whole government of the state is run from here. That includes the legislature, which elects every 2 years.

We get a lot of spam.... Not so much email, but television, radio, print ads, lawn signs, billboards. It's a shitfest.

Poor Sue tho?

She lives in Iowa. I can't imagine the Hell she must be going through.

In other news, we're supposed to get a little storm, and a slight breeze. Once again, just in time for my days off.

Lucky me, I get to go pay my bills in a driving blizzard.

Oh, did I tell you that L had her baby?

Yup, 12/31/08 at 9:38, Cash Martyn ***** entered the world. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 10oz, and was 19 inches long. I suspect that he's already cool. With S and L as parents, this kid's gonna be Johnny Cash times Al Pachino, raised to the power of Tiger Woods.

---you didn't notice it, but I took a short break for dinner-----

Do I need to say...Unhh...fucking, yum?

One final thing: Your tax dollars at work.....

Ok, that's me done.

I find it hard to shed a tear.....

Ok, so I'm trying to decide if I should post mornings, before I got to work, or in the evenings afterwards.

They both have merit. If I post in the am they're likely to be more random, and prolly more light-hearted. They'll also prolly be less coherent.

Or not, as they'll all be coffee-fueled.

If I post in the evenings, I'll have had all day to rough draft the post in my head. That means that they'll be more structured, but prolly funnier, as I'll have had the time to perfect what I want to say.

I suppose I could mix it up, and just post whenever, but I think if I set some type of schedule, it will be eaiser for me to get through a whole year of it.....

Maybe I'll alternate.....I posted kinda late last night, and I've posted early today.

Maybe I just won't worry about it.

Maybe this is a lame post.

Maybe I need more coffee.

Off to fix that.....

Here's a list of things you can't flush down the toilet.....

I just had to steal that line.

I was watching the Monk-a-Thon on USA, and they used that line.

I lol'd at it.

This is kind of a lame start to the whole 'post every day thing,' but I've had a pretty busy day.

I made my first batch of bread.

I made my first batch of pizza dough.

We went shopping, and found some unbeatable deals at Wally World.

I am now struggling to keep my eyes open, so I'm going to give up.
