I had sushi today.....

FINALLY

I've been joanzing for it for ages now, and today, I finally reached my breaking point.

I don't know if I've mentioned, but there's this place called National's Cafe on main street here in ol' C-town. It a tough place to spot if you don't know what you're looking for, and it's in a building that's been like.....everything.

It was a sub shop. It was a taco joint. I think it was even a coffee shop once....

But, I digress.

It kinda looks like a dive from the outside:

Dive

When that window opens, click on 'street view' then use the navigator in the upper left of the pic to click left once.

It's the blue and white building.

It doesn't look like much, but, as I've always been told, looks aren't everything.

I can report to you, however, that inside those humble walls dwells the best sushi in Carson City.

To wit, the Fire Roll: Deep fried assorted fish tempura with eel sauce & spicy sauce.

Again, it sounds humble, but I let 2 other people try it today, and both agreed that it was the shiznit. They have other stuff, but that's the one that I've been salivating over now for....well, since the last time I was there, I guess. I had one of those, and the boring Californa roll (crab avocado cucumber & tobiko) and it was divine. In addition to their ala carte menu, which is outstanding, they're also one of the sushi places in town that offer an all you can eat special. Yes, you read that right, all you can eat. Dinner is $18.50.

Lunch? A mere $15.50.

It's a good thing I got to have a trancendental experience today, because the rest of my day was an absolutely smoking turd.

Just the fact that I was on the counter for most of my shift today should give you a little insight. Cause, y'know...I don't work the register.

Ever.

I also worked a full hour of overtime, so I had a tasty 9 hour day.

I'm home now, though, and things are much better.

I just thought I'd share my sushi story before I fire up eq....

Fuck dolphins, I want a Niçoise salad...

I'm sorry I've been so spotty with my posting lately, but I've been enjoying the freedom of not being on a NaBloPoMo schedule.

We've got another petrified wood hike scheduled for tomorrow, just so you know.

And like you care.

We're going to do it right this time tho. We're taking back packs, water, the GPS.

We're going all out.

If noting else, it should make for a cool hike/post.

I knew I did a word post...

Kelwhy did a post on some of her favorite words the other day, and I had a vague feeling that I'd already done something like that, but I could find it for the life of me.

Until last night, that is. I found a piece of paper covered with the chicken scrawl that is my 'in a hurry' handwriting, and it reminded me that it was one of the 'letter posts' from one of the NabloPoMo themes.....

So, if you want to read 10 of my favorite words that start with the letter J, go here.

It's funny how one little thing can totally change your day.....

Michael and I didn't really have any plans for today (which is a plan in itself for us sometimes) and I was up playing EQ (which ive been neglecting for some time now) when Michael woke up.

We hung out a bit, and then left the house on a relatively simple errand, but in the course of taking care of that, I hooked up with an old friend (that i havent seen in a couple years at least) and we end up at his buddies house, who just happens to be having a garage sale.

So, of course, I looked around, and bought a couple things, then the other customer left, and we all went inside for a beer. We were hanging out and enjoying a cool one, and another customer shows up.

While he's outside, my friend starts telling me about this 'petrified wood field' up the wash behind this guys house. Well, if you know anything about me (or michael for that matter) you know that we immediately set off in quest of the elusive petrified wood.

We hiked a whole ton, and were helped by a nice little overcast that sprouted up, and some very nice little breezes.

I'm happy to report that both Michael and I found some. Now, at first I just found a couple of pieces, and I would have been happy with that, but after some more hiking, we came to a place that was covered with it.

I must have had like 2 or 3 pounds of it when I finally decided not to get greedy, and just go. I need to clean it all up, so you can't see it yet, but the new header pic is a piece of the wood I found.

That's what she said.

I'm gonna give you a little somthin' you cain't take off.....

So, Michael and I went and saw Inglorious Basterds last night.

As an added bonus, Scotty went with us.

Now, I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I'm a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino and his various movies.

That being said, last nights experience was unique in that it's the first time I've gotten to go see one of his works in the theatre.

Not only that, but the 3 of us were at a midnight showing on premiere night.

I prolly don't need to tell you this, but the movie was fucking awesome!!

Now, you know that even when I 'review' movies here I rarely give away secrets or include 'spoilers' and today won't be any different.

I will say that Brad Pitt turns in a fantastic performance, as does Diane Kruger who is the only other person whose name I recognize. The rest of the actors and actresses are great too, but those are the only 2 that I know by name.

In case you haven't heard, it's a movie based in WWII, and is about killing Nazi's. I don't count that as a spoiler, as if you've seen a preview, you already know that. If you haven't....well, go Apple.com/quicktime or something and watch a trailer or 2.

Ok, so it was a great night at the movies, and a fucking awesome movie.

Oh, and the theatre was packed with smokin' hotties.

I mean, they were fucking everywhere. Of course, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that I most of them were young enough to be my daughter, but that didn't stop them from being hot.

Anyhow, we crashed at L's house in Reno, and that's where I'm blogging from.

I should warn you that if you do decide to see this flick, prepare yourself. This is not a warm and fuzzy movie. It's harsh, stark, and violent as hell.

I think you should all go see it and then come here and tell me what you thought.

My life sucks, and sucks hard....

It's also been boring and unblogworthy.

We had 'breakfast for dinner' Sunday night, and I was totally gonna take a pic (and actually post it this time) but like a big flake, I fucking forgot.

We had Belgian waffles, sausage and ham.

I ate about a waffle and a half, a whole sausage pattie, and a fair portion of ham. I was fucking stuffed.

We rounded the night out with a little video game golf and a couple beers.

It was a great night of family time, but again, not very exciting for y'all to read about.

Wet socks = Death.....

I've been aroud for a lot of years, and I've learned that a lot of people have a lot of opinions about a lot of things.

And almost nobody agrees on anything.

I think I've uncovered a rarity tho, an bona fide universal fucking truth.

Everyone I've talked to about it (not a huge number but enough) if firmy of the opinion that stepping in something wet while wearing socks is the worst fucking thing in the world.

I've held this to be true for years now, and just recently, through whatever serendipity drives the universe, I've had conversations about it with no less than 5 people, and we all agree.

It fucking sucks like no other.

I mean, for me? I'd almost rather shoot myself in the foot, or even have it amputate than feel that soggy, clingy, nastiness.

It's as fucked up as things get, and I want it to stop.

I know it won't tho. I mean, it's summer, so I'm not running around in my socks much, but come winter I will be.

If I have the misfortune to step in something wet, keep your ears open.

Either for my screams of disgust and dismay, or for the sound of my pistol as I shoot myself in the offending appendage.....

Have you heard of carsonsports.com?

Well, in case you haven't, I'd highly suggest it.

But only if you want to be one of the cool kids, cause we don't no 'poser's hangin' out.

But, on to other things.

Walking sucks.

I mean really sucks.

I did get a ride home tonigh (well sorta) from an old friend, Phil.

He's responsible for the place linked in the title, and you should all go check it out.

Wish I had more, but I'm exhausted...

P.S. it's carsonsports.com in case you missed it.

Surfing's the source. It'll change your life, swear to God

I'm watching Point Break as I blog this morning, and that's one of my fave lines from it.

It's an obscure one, and spoken by a total nobody in the movie (young clerk at a surf shop) but it kind of sums up the surfing philosophy.

I've never been surfing, and I'm sure I'm too old to learn how now, but I like watching it. I really want to go to the North Shore of Hawaii and shoot pics like this:

Is that insane, or what?

I mean, that's like a what, 25 or 30 foot wave?

I can see myself just hanging out at Pipeline, taking pictures like this all day.

Now, all I need's money for the trip to Hawaii....

Donations now being accepted.

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women, no fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark......

Ok, you get a million bonus points if you know what song that's from (you there psp). So, I know I haven't posted in a couple of days, and I wish I had a better excuse, but I really don't.

I just haven't felt like it.

See, I try and have something to say when I come here to share. It doesn't always work out that way of course, but I always try.

Lately, there just hasn't been much going on. I mean, we've had family dinner, and I owe y'all some pix from same, but I'm lame like that.

I could also tell you how fucking hot it's been, but who really wants to hear that. Either you're sweltering too, or it's been unseasonably cold, and you wish it was warmer.

I don't think that I've mentioned that my car's been out of commision. It died on July 4th, on the way to my work party, and has been sitting in the driveway ever since. Today, I got the bad news from my mechanic that it's prolly a goner.

See, the timing belt went this time, and while it's fixable, it's also probable that the motor has suffered from this, and in all likelihood it will fail again. It's kind of funny that Michael arrived like 2 days before my car died, so we've been able to get around (and ive gotten rides to/from work) but he's been helping out my buddy J by babysitting in the am's.

That means I've had a few walks to/from work lately, which, coupled with the blast furnace temps we've had lately has just been fucking fabbo. Odds are, I get to walk tomorrow too.

In anticipation, I'm charging my iPod, as it was almost dead. While doing that, I was perusing my library (as i usually do) and picking random songs to listen to. I found the song that the title comes from, and remembered (again) how much I love it. In fact, I put it on repeat and listened to it like 5 times in a row.

I love it that much.

I suppose one of these days I can post the answers to my last music related post. Let me know if you want to read what the songs were.

Even better than meteors.....

We're in the middle of what could be called 'summer storm season' here in the Great Basin. In days gone by, most of the Summer here was thunderstorm season. Over the years, as humans have continued to fuck up the weather patterns, we've seen considerably fewer storms.

Also, for whatever reason, most of the damn things have been hitting during the day, which is distressing for me. Not only because I'm at work, and can't really enjoy them, but also because it's virtually impossible to get any good lightning pictures during a daylight storm.

Now, I imagine you're all wondering where this is going. I can hear the ruminations from here. Ok, I'll let you out of the suspense closet, and present you with these:

In case you can't tell, I'm pretty stoked. Not only was I able to enjoy the light and sound show, but I also got some new photos for my 'folio. It always makes me happy when I can get some nice lighting pictures. Now, I want you all to pray for more storms tonight.

In other news, it's Q's birthday, so why don't you head on over and wish her a happy one?

Also, I did not sign up for NaBloPoMo this month, and even if I had, I'd already have fucked it up, as you can clearly see by looking at my blog.
