Ok, I often talk about Pop's cooking, and how amazing it is, but I seldom show you the results. Well, that's not what I'm going to do today.
Today, you get the whole thing.
We'll call this recipie 'Indonesian Pork Kabobs,' cause that's basically what it is.
This amazingly simple recipie starts with Indonesian soy sauce. Kecap Manis Sedang is what we used, purchased from the local Oriental market. Pour about half the bottle into a container (we use mason jars) and add around a half to 3/4 of a cup of sweet pickle juice.
Use your mini-food processor (you do have one right) and mince up 'a handful' of fresh garlic cloves. Put that into the jar. Now do the same with 'about half' of a medium sized yellow onion.
Place the jar in the fridge, and let it sit for 24 hours.
Now, this calls for pork, but I'm sure you could use just about any meat you like, but when you're ready to start, cube your meat. Try for inch to inch and a half chunks, but the size is really up to you.
Place your meat into a container (baking dish big tupperware bowl) or in a pinch, you can use a ziploc baggie. Put the marinade in with the pork, and marinate for another 24 hours.
Ok, now the fun part. Soak some skewers in water (unless you have metal ones of course) and begin placing the meat on the sticks. You could use other stuff too, if you want (mushrooms onion wedges cherry tomatos) but this round it was just meat for us.
When you're done, fire up the barbeque. During grilling, baste the skewers (i used a spoon) periodically with the marinade. After a bit of grilling, this is what you will have:
And since the meal is only as good as it's plated state:
A quick note on the dipping sauce: Simply place the remaining marinade in a pan and tighten it up with a little cornstarch and water, and voila.
This shit is fucking awesome.
Enjoy.
